The Lawns shortlisted for Dementia Care Awards 2024

We are excited to announce that two team members at The Lawns Care Home have been named finalists in the Dementia Care Awards 2024 for the ‘Intergenerational Activity’ category!

Magic Moments Coordinator, Karen Storey and Home Manager, Marie Welsh, have been recognised for their work in organising and running intergenerational activities to bring joy to residents living at The Lawns Care Home.

As well as hosting regular visits from nursery schools where the residents and children learn Makaton together to aid communication, the home also runs an intergenerational gardening club, board games and singing get-togethers and Teddy Bears’ picnics with local schools.

One of the initiatives that particularly impressed the judges was the care home’s ‘Once Upon a Time’ storybooks. Team members work with residents and different generations of their family to create a scrapbook, adding memories, photographs and items like ticket stubs and event programmes to build a lifetime story.

The latest project has seen the care home’s residents painting pebbles and placing them around the local area during their trips out and about in the community for children to find.

Home Manager, Marie Welsh, said: “Karen and I are honoured to have been shortlisted for this award.

“I am so proud of all the team here at The Lawns for everything they do to enrich the lives of our residents. It’s an absolute privilege to care for and help our residents lead full and interesting lives and really make a difference.”
